September: Pampering Meeting
Stressed about the school year starting? Has it been a long summer with the kids and you are now looking to recuperate? September’s meeting is perfect for you! We will have pampering stations including massages, hand scrubs, makeup applications, etc. This is a great opportunity to introduce the Board, tell about the group, etc.
October: Angela Livingston on Love & Logic “How to Keep Your Cool”
As mothers of children who constantly test us and boundaries, we have all been in a situation where we almost lost it entirely. Angela is going to give techniques to help us better deal with these situations in a healthy way.
November: Jerry Waynant on Recognizing Signs of Child Abuse
Whether you are ever in a position where you are responsible for a group of children (VBS leader, team mom, etc.) or your children are involved in a group that requires them to be under another adult’s care/supervision, this meeting is important. Jerry will walk us through signs of child abuse, how to recognize these signs, and what to do with this information.
December: Amy Gill on the Five Love Languages
Dr. Gary Chapman developed the “five love languages” which help spouses improve or heal their marriage by focusing on the core idea that all people need to feel loved. Amy Gill will explore this topic and discuss the different ways people can feel loved in order to determine where you and your spouse fall.
January: Kelly Ballard on Organization
Do the toys from your playroom somehow sprout legs and relocate to your bedroom, dining room or kitchen? Do your kitchen counters get cluttered with school artwork, grocery lists and other items? Kelly Ballard will talk about how to organize these “kid areas and items” so that your home is easier to live in.
February: Fred Shlesinger on College Savings Plans
With the many options available today regarding saving for our kids to attend college, it can be confusing. Fred Shlesinger, a financial planner, will come and discuss the details and merits of each option to clear up any confusion.
March: Angela Livingston on Love & Logic “How to Keep Your Cool”
As mothers of children who constantly test us and boundaries, we have all been in a situation where we almost lost it entirely. Angela is going to give techniques to help us better deal with these situations in a healthy way.
Trying to reschedule Greg from Home Depot on DIY projects for Spring Luncheon!
There are hundreds of projects we all do or would like to do around the house, but either don’t have time or the know-how (or both). Greg, the manager from Home Depot at Park & Tollway, will come and talk to us about some do-it-yourself projects. He will go over not only how to do them, but what supplies are needed. We will send out an email/evite before this meeting so that he can focus the discussion on projects with the most interest. He has said that he can talk about anything under the sun, so start thinking about it now!
April: Minette Riordon on Heart-centered parenting: How to Connect to Your Children by Listening to Their Feelings
Minette has a Master’s and PhD, but the focus of her life has shifted to her own family and raising happy, healthy kids. She is now certified as a parent coach and enjoys sharing her knowledge with other parents. She established North Texas Kids magazine as a means of learning about her community and what services were available to families. She will speak on the ways parents unknowingly stop children from healing hurts and then show creative ways that parents can help children learn to express their feelings safely and successfully so that they can move beyond them.
May: Cathy Ledsome
Daughter of member Cathy Dade and elementary school teacher, Cathy Ledsome will be speaking to us about school developmental expectations. This can include topics from Kindergarten readiness to expectations surrounding parent involvement at all grade levels, etc. A survey will be conducted before this talk in order to cover the most important topics to our group members. Additionally, we will survey the group so that she can focus on the school districts and/or schools attended by our children.
